ProAves celebrates International Migratory Bird Day

9 March, 2011

Tuesday 19 May 2009.

ProAves participated in the launch of the International Migratory Bird Day and the Bird Fest at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington D.C. We participated with many organizations in North America in the race to raise awareness of bird migratory conservation across the Americas.

The 17th International Migratory Bird Day was launched on April 30th with a reception and keynote lecture by ProAves council member, Dr. Nigel Collar, who gave a wonderful presentation on the amazing relationship between man and birds. Nigel also presented his book Birds and People: Bonds in a timeless journey.

The Bird Fest is an outdoor festival organized by The Environment for the Americas and Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and attended by many thousands of visitors at the National Zoo. This year, May 2, ProAves held an exhibit at the Bird Fest which presented our work on migratory bird conservation in Colombia, and distributed materials which drew the attention of many visitors, including Colombian tourists.

You can learn more about the International Migratory Bird Day at www.birdday.org and remember we also celebrate this event in Colombia in October!
