The Division of Conservation at ProAves is directed by Heidy Valle and the support of 9 Reserve Coordinators and 12 conservation assistants, focused on activities such as the protection of the reserves, reforestation and sustainable development with the communities.
ProAves aims to help and contribute to the recovering of ecosystems of bird’s species under threat in Colombia. By working together with local communities in zones of influence of our programs, we had helped to provide opportunities for training and ways to improve the use of natural resources.

Roncesvalles, pioneer town for the signing of Reciprocal Water Agreements

In September, ProAves assisted two property owners in Roncesvalles, Tolima, to commit to preserving the majority of their land that is within the town’s watershed. As agreed, for at least ten years, the total of 3,200 acres will be saved and restored for natural habitat conservation.

Fifth protected areas management course

The 5th meeting of protected area managers from 15 protected areas from across Colombia was held from 3-11 June, 2011 in El Paujil Bird Reserve thanks to NMBCA. Training included monitoring biodiversity, camera trapping, management planning, mapping and constructing platforms.

Five New Ecological Easements in Santander

Thanks to the support of ABC, AWBAS and CLP, 143 acres have been permanently protected by their owners to strengthen the Cerulean Warbler Conservation Corridor. Commitments by each landowner include not cutting down trees, reforesting watershed areas, establishing living fences and silvopastoral systems and develop friendly production practices.
