Celebrating Colombia’s 200th anniversary, in London

The 200th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Colombia was celebrated in Britain. The Natural History Museum in London hosted an event entitled "Colombia: Paradise of Biodiversity" with 200 guests that included the former President of Colombia, Belisario Betancur.

Economic alternatives workshop for hunters

During May, a training workshop in economic alternatives was held in El Paujil Bird Reserve with more than 30 local hunters from the community of Puerto Pinzón. Training focused on bamboo crafts and constructions (an abundant local resource), improving food local crops and reforestation to provide alternative incomes.

The attractive and endemic frogs of Colombia is attracting illegal traffickers from Europe. Through informants in Germany, ProAves has petitioned the Colombian government and immigration officials to be on the look-out for 4 notorious illegal frog collectors who are planning to visit Colombia soon.

Ecovolunteer’s uncover the Raptors of El Dorado.

The world-renowned raptor expert Dr Jean Marc Thiollay and his wife Francoise visited El Dorado Bird Reserve as EcoVolunteers to survey birds-of-prey. They recorded 22 species of raptors, including the threatened Semicollared hawk and Black-and-chestnut Eagle. Dr Thiollay recommended the area under protection be expanded.

95 new artificial nests in Andean Parrot Corridor

With the growing success of the artificial nest box Program, ProAves has just expanded the Program to provide a further 95 safe sites for nesting. Selective logging of mature trees for timber has removed the most valuable natural cavities. Adopt a nest box and directly prevent the extinction of the rarest parrots in Colombia.
